Axminster is a historic market town situated on a hill overlooking the River Axe in the south-east of Devon. The town lies at the intersection of two Roman roads: the Fosse Way and the Durnovaria-Isca Dumnoniorum road. A Roman fort at nearby Woodbury Farm was occupied until the 4th century. Axminster was recorded in the late 9th century as 'Ascanmynster'. In 1210, a charter was granted to the town that included the right to hold a weekly cattle market. In 1755, Thomas Whitty established a carpet factory in Axminster, creating high-quality, hand-tufted carpets that became world-renowned. The town was on the coaching route from London to Exeter. St Mary's Church (C of E) has Norman origins. Axminster Guildhall (1931) is in the neoclassical style. The town is within the council area of East Devon (Devon).

Bedminster is former town and ancient parish which now forms a large suburb in south Bristol, Somerset. The town may be Roman in origin, centred on the present East Street and West Street. At Domesday, the Royal Manor of Bedminster comprised all the land south of the Avon, from the Avon Gorge to Brislington. Coal mining and shipbuilding developed in the 18th and 19th centuries. From 1803, northern parts of the ancient parish were added to the municipal area of Bristol, including the town itself in 1836. Bedminster is within the council area of Bristol.

Ilminster is a historic market town located in the Isle Valley in southern Somerset. The town has Saxon origins, being awarded a charter in 995 by Ethelred. It is mentioned in Domesday as a possession of Muchelney Abbey. By the 17th century, the town had become a centre of cloth and glove making. The Church of St Mary's Church, built around 1450 on the site of a Saxon church, is a fine example of Somerset Perpendicular architecture in Hamstone. The colonnaded Market Cross dates from the 17th century. The town is within the council area of Somerset.

Kidderminster is a market town standing on the River Stour in northern Worcestershire. It is listed in Domesday as 'Chideminstre'. Charles I granted the Borough of Kidderminster a Charter in 1636. The town was a major centre for cloth manufacturing, particularly specialising in carpet-making from the late 18th century.
