Y Castell Newydd, Glamorgan   (Mediæval Castle)

Y Castell Newydd (English: Newcastle Castle) is a ruined mediæval castle located on Newcastle Hill, Newcastle, Bridgend, Glamorgan. The castle was initially constructed around 1106 as a ringwork by William de Londres, one of the legendary Twelve Knights of Glamorgan. The defences were strengthened in stone in the late 12th century. The south tower was remodelled for living quarters in the 16th century, when Tudor windows and fireplaces were added. The monument is in the care of Cadw. It is within the council area of Bridgend.
