Abaty Nedd, Glamorgan   (Ecclesiastical Monument)

Abaty Nedd (English: Neath Abbey) is a ruined Cistercian monastery at Neath, Glamorgan. The abbey was established in 1129 when Richard I de Grenville, one of the Twelve Knights of Glamorgan, gave 8,000 acres of his estate to Savigniac monks from western Normandy. Following the merging of the Savigniac order into the Cistercian order in 1147, Neath Abbey became a Cistercian house. The abbey was ravaged by the Welsh uprisings of the 13th century. The abbey was dissolved in 1539. In the late 18th century, an iron foundry was opened near the abbey ruins. The ruined walls of both the Abbey and later mansion were gradually engulfed in industrial waste. The site was excavated between 1924 and 1935, 7,000 tons of slag and other industrial waste being removed by hand to uncover the abbey ruins. The remains of the abbey's gatehouse stand on New Road alongside Abbey Primary School. The monument is in the care of Cadw. It is within the council area of Neath Port Talbot.

Abaty Tyndyrn, Monmouthshire   (Ecclesiastical Monument)

Abaty Tyndyrn (English: Tintern Abbey) is a ruined Cistercian monastery on the west bank of the River Wye at Tintern, Monmouthshire. It was founded in 1131 by Walter de Clare, Lord of Chepstow, though very little of the first buildings survive. The Abbey was mostly rebuilt during the 13th century. The great church was built between 1269 and 1301. At the Dissolution, it was granted to the then lord of Chepstow, Henry Somerset, 2nd Earl of Worcester. Lead from the roof was sold and the decay of the buildings began. It has been a major tourist destination since the mid 18th century, its remains celebrated in poetry and painting. The monument is in the care of Cadw. It is within the council area of Monmouthshire.

Abaty Ystrad Fflur, Cardiganshire   (Ecclesiastical Monument)

Abaty Ystrad Fflur (Strata Florida Abbey) is the ruins of a former Cistercian abbey near Pontrhydfendigaid, Cardiganshire. The Monastery was founded in 1164 by the Cambro-Norman Knight Robert FitzStephen. Strata Florida Abbey was dissolved in 1539. Most of the buildings were demolished, the refectory and dormitory being rebuilt as Tŷ Abaty. The church of St Mary, within the boundaries of the graveyard, may have been built with stone taken from the monastic site. The site is in the care of Cadw. It is within the council area of Ceredigion.

Abberwick, Northumberland   (Deserted Village)

Abberwick is a deserted mediæval village near Edlingham in Northumberland. It is located four miles west of Alnwick, near the River Aln. It was known as Alburwic in the 12th century. The name is Anglo-Saxon Old English 'Aluburg's dairy farm'. The remains of the village include the foundations of a tower house and a section of the open field system.The earliest reference to the village was in the 13th century, when it was recorded as part of the barony of Wark on Tweed. In the mid-19th century, Abberwick comprised four farms, a corn mill and a few houses. It had an area of 1,678 acres and was the property of Bryan Burrell of Broom Park. It is within the council area of Northumberland.

The Abbey Farm House (aka Preston Great Farm) is a 15th-century house in Preston Plucknett, Yeovil, Somerset. The Ham stone farmhouse was built by John Stourton around 1420 as the manor house of Preston Plucknett. It was previously known as Preston Great Farm.
