Uxbridge, Middlesex   (Town)

Uxbridge is a suburban town in Middlesex. The town appears in records from 1107 as "Woxbrigge". By 1800 Uxbridge had become one of the most important market towns in Middlesex. The opening of the Metropolitan Line in 1904 led to significant suburban development in the town. The Crown and Treaty is a 16th century pub in which Charles I held negotiations with his Parliamentary opponents during the English Civil War. RAF Uxbridge houses the Battle of Britain Bunker, from where the air defence of the south-east of England was coordinated during the Battle of Britain.
