Wroxton Abbey, Oxfordshire
Wroxton Abbey is a Jacobean country house, built on the foundations of a Augustinian priory, located near Wroxton, Oxfordshire. The priory was founded in 1217 by Michael Belet in honour of St Mary. The early 17th-century house was begun by Sir William Pope around 1618 and comprised the Great Hall, Parlour, Porch and Pantry. The house incorporates monastic remains including a 13th-century blocked arch and a 14th-century moulded doorway in the boilerhouse. Additions by Roger North around 1672 include the north wing with Great Parlour, Garden Parlour, and Chapel. The house became the location of Wroxton College in 1965. It is within the council area of Cherwell (Oxfordshire).
