Woodford Green, Essex
Woodford Green is a former hamlet that is now an urban area in the north of Woodford, Essex. The Green itself, nearly a amile long, is claimed to have the oldest village cricket field still in use. A statue of Sir Winston Chruchcill, former MP for the area, stands on The Green. One of his constituents was his political adversary (and war-time Deputy Prime Minster) Clement Attlee, who lived in Woodford Green in the 1920s and 1930s. The writer and activist Sylvia Pankhurst lived in Woodford Green from 1924-1956. The area is within the council area of Redbridge.
