Witney is an historic market town in Oxfordshire. Witney has long been an important crossing over the River Windrush. Witney Market began in the Middle Ages. The buttercross in the market square was built around 1600. The town hall was built in the 1770s. The town is within the council area of West Oxfordshire (Oxfordshire).
