Winsford, Cheshire

Winsford is a town in Cheshire. From the 18th century, the town grew around the salt mining industry after the River Weaver was canalised, allowing freight to be conveyed to the Port of Runcorn. The town experienced major expansion in the 1960s and 1970s as a location for 'overspill' population from Liverpool. The town is within the council area of Cheshire West and Chester.
