Whittington Castle, Shropshire
Whittington Castle is a 13th-century castle in the village of Whittingon, Shropshire. It was originally a motte-and-bailey castle. The present castle ruins date from 1221 when the fitz Warren family applied to Henry III for permission to build a stone fortress. The castle fell into decay after the Civil War, but has seen restoration work since 1967. It is in the care of the Whittington Castle Preservation Fund. It is within the council area of Shropshire.
