Whiterock, Antrim

Whitetrock is a housing estate in west Belfast, County Antrim. It lies within the townland of Ballymurphy, in the civil parish of Shankill. The estate was built in the 1920s as a model housing estate. An area of Ballymurphy townland had long been known as "White Rock", from a limestone crag located on the slopes of Divis. The estate itself was somewhat south-east of this area, apparently named from its location on the Whiterock Road. Whiterock is within the council area of Belfast.
