Whitehead, Antrim
Whitehead is a small seaside town on the east coast of County Antrim. It is within the townlands of White Head and Castletown, in the civil parish of Templecorran. Before the coming of the railway in 1863, Whitehead was a hamlet slightly inland. The area was developed as a resort from late Victorian times. Much of this was due to the efforts of railway civil engineer Berkeley Deane Wise who designed and built a bandstand, ladies and gents bathing boxes, a 'children’s corner', a slipway and a pavilion. Wise also built Blackhead Path along the coast to the lighthouse at Blackhead, overlooking the town. The town is within the council area of Mid and East Antrim.
