White Island Church and Figures, Fermanagh
White Island Church and Figures is a ruined mediæval church incorporating earlier carved figures, located on White Island in Lower Lough Erne, County Fermanagh. The small ruined church dates from around 1200 and lies within the large earthwork enclosure of a pre-Norman church. The church has a reconstructed plain Romanesque doorway. Secured to the north side of the south wall are eight carvings (seven figures and one head) built into the masonry of the church. Most of the figures were carved wearing the long tunics of churchmen. They are all carved in quartzite and were probably constructed between AD 800 and 1000. They were later used as building stones in the church before being uncovered in recent centuries. The monument is in the care of the Department for Communities. The monument is within the council area of Fermanagh and Omagh.
