Whitchurch, Shropshire

Whitchurch is a market town in Shropshire. The town was founded by the Romans around AD 52, and was called Mediolanum ("Middle of the Plain"), it stood on a major Roman road between Chester and Wroxeter. The town was granted market status in the 14th century. There are many historic buildings, including the old Whitchurch Grammar School, founded in 1548, and the Old Eagles pub built in the 16th century. The town is within the council area of Shropshire.
