Whimpton, Nottinghamshire
Whimpton (aka Whimpton Moor) is a deserted mediæval village near Ragnall, Nottinghamshire. The village was recorded in Domesday as `Wimentun'. The village was deserted by 1547 when a post-mortem inquest lists Whimpton as nothing more than a field name. The earthwork remains are mostly in a field south of the A52; some lie north of the road, near Whimpton House. The site is within the council area of Bassetlaw (Nottinghamshire).
