Whaley Bridge, Cheshire

Whaley Bridge is a town in Cheshire. It stands on the west bank of the River Goyt, with a small area across the Goyt in Derbyshire. The town grew during the Industrial Revolution based on coal mining and the cotton industry. The Peak Forest Canal opened in 1800. The town is within the council area of High Peak (Derbyshire).
