Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset
Weston-super-Mare is a seaside resort town in Somerset. It lies on the Bristol Channel between the bounding high ground of Worlebury Hill and Bleadon Hill. Weston was a small village until the railways arrived in 1841, after which the town blossomed into a major seaside resort. Opening in 1867, Birnbeck Pier (now derelict) provided a docking point for paddle steamers from South Wales with many amusements. The Grand Pier (1904) remains open despite its pavilion having burned down in both 1930 and 2008. The Winter Gardens Pavilion, a neo-Georgian pavilion, opened in 1927. The town is within the council area of North Somerset.
