Westholme Hall, Durham
Westholme Hall is a mansion half a mile north of the village of Winston in County Durham. In the sixteenth century it was part of the Raby Estate with the Dowthwaite family as tenants. In 1603 they had amassed enough money to buy the estate and in 1606 rebuilt much of the Hall. In the nineteenth century it became very dilapidated until in 1892 it was bought by Joseph Thompson of a Sunderland shipbuilding family who restored the property and it remains in the hands of his descendants today. A grade II listed building. It is within the council area of County Durham.
