Westgate-on-Sea, Kent
Westgate-on-Sea is a seaside resort town in Kent. Until the 1860s, Westgate consisted of only a farm and a coastguard station. From the 1860s, the area was developed by Corbett & McClymont as a seaside resort, a process accelerated by the arrival of the railway in 1871. The town has 2 sandy beaches, at St Mildred's Bay and West Bay. The Carlton Cinema opened in 1912, having originally been built as the town hall in 1920. The town is within the council area of Thanet (Kent).
