MenuWest Norwood, Surrey
West Norwood is a metropolitan district in Surrey, forming a southern suburb of London. Once part of the Great North Wood, the area was developed from the early 19th century. St Luke's Church (1822) was an early part of the development. The area was formerly known as Lower Norwood, reflecting its being at a lower altitude than Upper Norwood. Lower Norwood railway station opened in 1856 but was renamed West Norwood station in 1886, supposedly at the request the residents of the growing suburb. The area is within the council area of Lambeth.
