West Malling, Kent
West Malling is a historic market town in Kent. Believed to have originated in the Saxon period, West Malling had emerged as a market town by the 11th century, its growth further spurred when Gundulf, Bishop of Rochester, founded St. Mary’s Abbey for Benedictine nuns around 1090. St Leonard's Tower is also reputed to have been built by Gundulf. The High Street retains its mediæval plan and has many fine ancient buildings hidden behind 17th and 18th-century facades.
