West Lanyon Quoit, Cornwall
West Lanyon Quoit is a Neolithic portal dolmen, a single-chamber megalithic tomb, near Madron, Cornwall. The portal dolmen survives as an upright stone measuring 5ft high and 4ft wide with a 14ft long and 9ft wide capstone leaning against it. Records from the early 19th century suggest that the large 'bank of earth and stones' which once covered the stones was still then extent though being systematically removed. Two sides of the chamber were removed between 1820 and 1861 and the large stones were cut and used for building. The monument is situated on a low ridge, overlooking the upper Lamorna River. It is within the council area of Cornwall.
