MenuWest Kennett Long Barrow, Wiltshire
West Kennett Long Barrow (sometimes written as West Kennet Long Barrow) is a Neolithic chambered burial mound situated just below the crest of a north-east facing slope with views towards the monumental mound of Silbury Hill in Wiltshire. Built out of earth, local sarsen megaliths, and oolitic limestone imported from the Cotswolds, the long barrow consisted of a sub-rectangular earthen tumulus enclosed by kerb-stones. Its precise date of construction is not known. The mixed bones of at least 30 individuals were placed in the chambers over a number of generations before the entrance was finally sealed. It is within the council area of Wiltshire.
