West Burton, Nottinghamshire
West Burton Village is a deserted mediæval village in Nottinghamshire. It is situated adjacent to the former west bank of the River Trent. 'Burtone' was first recorded in Domesday where it is documented that the village was owned by the Archbishop of York and Roger de Busli. The village was depopulated during the 18th and 19th centuries. St Helen's Church was demolished in 1896. The surviving earthworks clearly reflect the basic layout of the village as depicted on the mid-18th century map. It is within the council area of Bassetlaw (Nottinghamshire).
