West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire
West Bridgford is a town, lying on the south bank of the River Trent in Nottinghamshire. West Bridgford is reputed to have been founded by Edward the Elder around 920 as a strategic settlement to help guard the then new Trent Bridge. It was record in Domesday as 'Brigeforde'. Trent Bridge Cricket Ground has been used as a cricket ground since at least 1838, initially associated with the Trent Bridge Inn. West Bridgford remained a village until the late 19th century, from when the land between the village and cricket ground was developed, with West Bridgford becoming an urban district from 1894-1974. St Giles Church (C of E) is of mediæval origin, though restored in the late 19th century. West Bridgford Hall dates from around 1770. The town is within the council area of Rushcliffe (Nottinghamshire).
