Wentloog, Monmouthshire

Wentloog (Welsh: Gwynllŵg) is a traditional area in the south-west of Monmouthshire. It consists of coastal plain between the Rhymney and Usk rivers, together with the hills to the north. Gwynllŵg was a mediæval kingdom, later a Norman lordship and then a cantref. It is named after Gwynllyw, its 5th century and 6th century ruler. The area is within the council areas of Newport and Cardiff.
