Wem, Shropshire
Wem is a small market town in Shropshire. Weme was an Anglo-Saxon estate, which transitioned into a planned Norman castle-town established after the conquest. Wem Castle is now an earthwork. The sweet pea was first commercially cultivated in Wem under the variety named Eckford, after its inventor Henry Eckford. The town is within the council area of Shropshire.
