Welby, Leicestershire

Welby is a shrunken mediæval village, now a hamlet, in Leicestershire. The mediæval village was depopulated in c.1605 by the lord of the manor, William Digby. Substantial earthworks remain, revealing the extent of the mediæval settlement. Welby Grange and several other buildings comprise the present-day hamlet. It is within the council area of Melton (Leicestershire).
