Watling Street, Northamptonshire

Watling Street is a historic route, running from Dover to Wroxeter, including a section through Northamptonshire. First used by the ancient Britons, the road was later paved by the Romans. The section of Watling Street through Northamptonshire mostly forms part of the modern-day A5. It enters the county at Old Straford and leaves it near Lilbourne. In the far north-west of Northamptonshire, Watling Street forms part of the border with Warwickshire. The section to the north-west of Towcester forms part of the modern-day A5. This section of Watling Street is within the council area of West Northamptonshire.
