Watling Street, Staffordshire

Watling Street is a historic route, running from Dover to Wroxeter, including a section through Stafffordshire. First used by the ancient Britons, the road was later paved by the Romans. Watling Street enters Staffordshire as it crosses the Tame just east of Fazeley and exits the county just west of Weston-under-Lizard. For much of its route through Staffordshire it forms part of the modern-day A5. A section of Watling Street between Mile Oak and Hints is an unclassified road - the modern-day A5 now bypassing this stretch. This section of Watling Street is in the council area of Lichfield (Staffordshire).
