Warrington, Lancashire
Warrington is a town in Lancashire. The town stands on the north bank of the River Mersey, the town having developed as a market town at a bridging point of the river. Warrington grew during the Industrial Revolution, especially after the Mersey was made navigable. The town expanded into Cheshire in the 19th century, across the Mersey down to the Manchester Ship Canal. The Town Hall, built in 1750 for Thomas Patten, is famous for its golden park gates (added in 1895). The town is within the council area of Warrington.
