Warrenpoint, Down

Warrenpoint is a small port and resort town, lying at the head of Carlingford Lough in County Down. It is within the townlands of Ringmackilroy, Dromore and Clonallan Glebe, in the civil parish of Warrenpoint. Though the earliest reference to Warrenpoint (as "Warrenspoint") is from 1744, it had become a sizeable settlement by the early 19th century. A tidal dock was established in the mid 19th century. The railway arrived in 1849 and Warrenpoint became popular as a resort town. It has seen large-scale suburban expansion since the mid 20th century. The town is within the council area of Newry, Mourne and Down.
