Waringstown, Down

Waringstown is a large village in County Down. It is within the townlands of Magherana and Tullyherron, in the civil parish of Donaghcloney. The village was developed by landowner William Waring in the late 17th century. The village grew based around the industries of brewing, linen-weaving and clothing manufacture. The village was renowned for its handloom damask weaving. Holy Trinity Church (C of I), the parish church of Donaghcloney, was built by William Waring in 1681. Waringstown House (1667), also build by William Waring, remains in the Waring family. Until the mid 20th century, the village remained largely along one main street.
