Wardley, Durham

Wardley is a suburban village in County Durham. The original village of Wardley grew alongside Wardley Colliery which opened in 1855. Newer housing was built west of the railway around Wardley Hall in the 1930s and further housing in the 1950s, the original mining village then being demolished. Wardley is within the council area of Gateshead.
