MenuWalworth, Durham
Walworth is a hamlet and an abandoned village about three miles north-west of Darlington in County Durham. It is situated next to Walworth Castle and reported to have been decaying in 1626. The village was arranged around a green about 720 feet east-west by 525 feet transversely. There is a generally well preserved pattern of earthworks, building foundations, and ditches and banks. No remains of the village were said to be visible by 1885 apart from the ruin of a Norman chapel. The chapel, built circa 1180, was used as a barn in 1870 and subsequently incorporated into the main farm building. Modern farm buildings have been built on the former village green. It is within the council area of Darlington.
