Walton on the Hill, Lancashire

Walton is a former village (known as Walton on the Hill) that is now an urban area in Liverpool, Lancashire. Walton's recorded history starts with the death of Edward the Confessor, when Winestan held the manor of Walton. For local government purposes, the township of Walton on the Hill became a part of Liverpool county borough in 1895, following which it became increasingly urbanised. Goodison Park, home of Everton FC, was built in 1892. It is within the council area of Liverpool.
