Walsall, Staffordshire

Walsall is a market town in Staffordshire. Though its origins are not known, by the 13th century Walsall was a small market town. The Industrial Revolution transformed the town. The town manufactured a wide range of products including saddles, chains, buckles and plated ware. It became famous for its leather trade. For local government purposes, from 1889-1974, the town was the basis of Walsall county borough. St Matthew's Church was rebuilt in 1820-1821, but includes remains of the earlier 13th-century church. Walsall Arboretum is a Victorian public park close to the town centre. The town is within the council area of Walsall.
