Walmer, Kent

Walmer is a town in Kent. The original village of Walmer grew up around an estate established after the Conquest. Old St Mary’s Church dates from c. 1120. Lower Walmer developed as a separate settlement on the coast. Walmer Castle is an artillery fort originally constructed by Henry VIII, now a popular tourist attraction. Walmer is now contiguous with the neighbouring town of Deal, to its north. The town is within the council area of Dover (Kent).
