Walkden, Lancashire
Walkden is a town in Lancashire. It lies six miles north-west of Salford. As a town it developed during the 19th century, based on coal mining and textile manufacture. Many of the mines were linked by the Worsley Navigable Levels to the Bridgewater Canal at Worsley. For local government purposes, from 1984-1974 it was a part of Worlsey urban district. The town is within the council area of Salford.
