Walham Green, Middlesex

Walham Green is a former village that is now an urban area in Fulham, Middlesex. The earliest reference to the village is to 'Wandongrene' in 1383. The village grew from the 18th century. St John's Church was built in 1828 and the cottages gave way to terraced streets in the 19th century. Walham Green station opened in 1880. Shops and places of entertainment soon lined the Broadway and, as Fulham developed into a town, Walham Green became its commercial heart. The station was renamed Fulham Broadway in 1952. Stamford Bridge stadium, the home of Chelsea FC, lies in the east of the area. The area is within the council area of Hammersmith and Fulham.
