Vikings' Mound, Norfolk

Vikings' Mound (aka The Bubberies or Quidenham Mound) is an ancient earthwork mound at Quidenham, Norfolk. The mound has a maximum overall diameter of 65ft and a height, above the ditch bottom, of about 10ft; the flat top, at its widest point is 42ft in diameter, and shows no evidence of a former structure. The surrounding ditch is of impressive proportions, having a base width of up to 27ft and a depth of up to 4ft. It has been variously identified as a Bronze Age round barrow, the burial site of Queen Boudicca of the Iceni tribe, a battlefield site and a Viking monument. The mound has more recently been considered the remains of a small Norman motte-and-bailey castle. The monument is within the council area of Breckland (Norfolk).
