Vagniacis, Kent

Vagniacis (aka Springhead Roman site) was a Roman settlement and sacred site, located to the south-west of present-day Gravesend, Kent. Vagniacis is located where Watling Street crosses the head of the Ebbsfleet Valley. Springhead was first used as a religious site in the late Iron Age, focused on natural springs that fed into a pool. The pool was enclosed by a ditch and surrounded by a ceremonial way. The site was developed into a major religious centre by the Romans. The site is within the council area of Dartford (Kent). Roman Remains.
