Upper Soundwell, Gloucestershire

Upper Soundwell is a suburban village in Gloucestershire. Upper Soundwell and its neighbour Lower Soundwell lie in a former coal-mining area. Upper Soundwell grew to a substantial village in the 19th century, partly around shoe and boot manufacturing. The village saw substantial suburban development in the 20th century and is now largely contiguous with its neighbouring settlements of Staple Hill (north), Lower Soundwell (east), Hopewell Hill (south) and Hillfields (west). The village is within the council area of South Gloucestershire.
