Upper Malone, Antrim

Upper Malone is a suburban area in the south of Belfast, County Antrim. It is within the townland of Malone Upper (Main Portion), in the civil parish of Shankill. Located on the site of a 17th century fort, Malone House was built in the 1820s for William Wallace Legge, a rich Belfast merchant. Other prominent families built houses in the area during the 19th century. The early 20th Century saw the continued development of large homes and estates in the area. By the early 21st century, the area had become a mix of historic properties, modern office developments and upmarket modern housing. Upper Malone is within the council area of Belfast.
