Upper Clapton, Middlesex

Upper Clapton forms the northern part of the Clapton area of the metropolitan district of Hackney, Middlesex. The area saw substantial urban development in the late 19th century. The 1930s saw another period of large-scale housing development. The Cathedral of the Nativity of Our Lord is a Georgian Orthodox cathedral that first opened in 1892 as the Agapemonite Church of the Ark of the Covenant. The New Synagogue (1915) is a faithful replica of the Great St Helen's Synagogue in the City of London. It is within the council area of Hackney.
