Uckfield, Sussex
Uckfield is a town in Sussex. It lies on the River Uck, on the southern edge of the Weald. It is first mentioned, as 'Uckfeld', in 1220. Uckfield developed around the bridging point of the river, as a stopping-off point on the pilgrimage route between Canterbury, Chichester and Lewes. Bridge Cottage (now a museum) dates to around 1436. There are many historic buildings including the Old Grammar School, Copping Hall and Milton Cottage. The town is within the council area of Wealden (East Sussex).
