Tynan Abbey, Armagh
Tynan Abbey is a historic estate and a ruined country house, located outside the village of Tynan, County Armagh. The estate is within the townland of Fairview, in the civil parish of Tynan. Tynan Abbey was a large neo-gothic-romantic country house built around 1750. The house was set on fire during the murder of Sir Norman Strong and his son James Strong by the Provisional IRA in 1981. The ruined house was demolished in 1998 due to its unstable structure. The only remains are the arch of the front door surround. The extensive demesne includes terraces at the house site, a yew-edged box parterre and fine mature parkland. The estate is within the council area of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon.
