Tyldesley, Lancashire

Tyldesley is a town in Lancashire. Until the Industrial Revolution, agriculture and cottage spinning and weaving were the chief occupations. Cotton mills were constructed from the late 18th century. From the mid 19th century, coal mining became the dominant industry. St George's Church (1825) was built in the Early English Gothic style. Tyldesley Top Chapel (1789) is built in Flemish bond brick. The town is within the council area of Wigan.
