Twickenham, Middlesex
Twickenham is a suburban town in Middlesex. The historic riverside area is famous for its network of 18th-century buildings and pleasure grounds. Twickenham Stadium (1909) is the home of the Rugby Football Union. The town has three grand period mansions: York House, Marble Hill and Strawberry Hill House. From 1894-1965, for local government purposes, it formed the basis of Twickenham urban district (a municipal borough from 1926). The town is within the council area of Richmond upon Thames.
