Trenethick Barton, Cornwall

Trenethick Barton is a historic house with mediæval origins, located near Helston, Cornwall. The property is first mentioned in records in 1303. However, the building is mainly 16th-century with 18th-century alterations, and incorporates parts of an older house. It is also noted for its gatehouse and surrounding courtyard walls. During the Norman and into the mediæval period, the manor was the home of the Seneschall family and Walter Seneschall was M.P. for Helston in 1377. In 1392 the house was assigned to the Hill family who took the Seneschall coat of arms which can still be seen on the front door to the house and on the gatehouse. The house was used as a location for the Doctor Who story 'The Smugglers' in June 1966. It is within the council area of Cornwall.
