Toome, Antrim
Toome is a village, lying on the east bank of the River Bann where it enters Lough Neagh in County Antrim. It is within the townland of Toome, in the civil parish of Duneane. For centuries Toome was an important fording point of the Lower River Bann. In the late 18th century a bridge was built. The village remained a hamlet until the mid 20th century, since when it has seen significant housing development. The village has a long association with eel fishing. The village is within the council area of Antrim and Newtownabbey.
